About Potsin TIASHS

Our Story

The full name of our school is Talimul Islam Ahmadiyya Senior High School. “Talimul Islam” is an Arabic phrase which means The Teachings of Islam. T. I. is then the abbreviation of the words. The school was established in 1972 by the Ahmadiyya Muslim MissionGhana. The cardinal principles of the Mission are disciplinemorality and nobility in character. It also believes in formal education as an essential tool for total development of humanity. Hence, the establishment of the school under its NUSRAT-JAHAN (SERVICE TO HUMANITY) Scheme.

The motto of the school is ‘Nyamesuro na Nyimdzee ma kanko‘ which literally means “the fear of God and Knowledge bring progress”. The common greeting in the school is “As-salamu Alaikum” which means “Peace be unto you” and the response is “Wa alaikum salaam” which means “And the same peace be unto you too”.

Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School started as a humble institution at its present site with a student population of thirteen (13) boys and a girl, with only four teachers, including the Headmaster. Initially, the school started as a day school until 1974 when it begin enrolling students from outside its surrounding towns and villages. Students from the urban areas began the boarding system; they were ninety-four (94) girls and sixteen (16) boys. There was no pipe-borne water and most of the people in the community relied on reservoirs built in their homes. The rest also had to walk a distance of five (5) kilometers to river Ayensu for water. This was a daily routine and hampered the academic performance of students because they had no alternative; they had to fetch water from the river side before reporting for classes.

There was no lighting system and students had to walk through the dark for preps and the risk was obvious.
In September, 1984, Potsin T.I. AMASS was absorbed into the Public System of Education.

The school scored 100% in the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 and subsequent academic years in the West African Senior School Certificate with quality passes.

In Sports, the school has carved an enviable image for itself by emerging the 2006 National Milo Boys Soccer Champion and the 2008 National Milo Boys Soccer Runners-up

In Islam, knowledge is considered as the light with which success is achieved. The Holy Prophet Mohammed, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, said “seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave.” It is our vision to nurture our students to become not only academic giants but people who are morally upright. We believe that a professor with chains of degrees but deficient in morals is not only a social misfit but also a disgrace to the academia. Needless to say, an academic giant who is without morals cannot be a good role model for his community and nation.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, has admonished all believers to seek knowledge at all cost. In fact, he emphasized that it is obligatory on every Muslim, both male and female to seek knowledge which is the key to success life on earth and the hereafter. Based on the above, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission established this institution to achieve its philosophy of giving quality education and good moral training to students.
